The new IKEA store at Sylvia Park in Auckland contributes to IKEA’s ambitions of reaching net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by 2050, with a major milestone of cutting emissions by 50% by 2030. The store incorporates several major sustainability features:
-
A rooftop solar PV system supplies approximately 50% of the building’s total energy needs. The building’s remaining energy consumption is fully matched with verified renewable sources through the BraveTrace New Zealand Energy Certificate System (NZECS).
-
A 100% LED lighting system that can be reprogrammed, so each of the 3,000+ fixtures is individually controlled and scheduled to reduce energy use.
-
Twenty-five electric vehicle charging stations available for customers in the car park, plus “last-mile” EV chargers on-site for delivery trucks and vans.
