The Residual Supply Mix is now 6.51% more carbon-intensive for those not certifying

From April 2025 to March 2026, 419 organisations certified their electricity through BraveTrace, up from 393 the previous year.

During the same period, the number of New Zealand Energy Certificates (NZ-ECs) redeemed increased by 19%, with BraveTrace now certifying more than 6% of New Zealand’s total electricity production.

As a result, the gap between the Residual Supply Mix (RSM) and the National Supply Mix (NSM) widened for the seventh consecutive year, reaching 6.51%, up from 5.47% in the previous reporting period.

Another notable trend is that wind and solar now account for 61% of all certificates issued, compared with just 1% three years ago. This reflects the growing number of organisations procuring renewable electricity that meets RE100 asset-age criteria.
