EKOenergy is a global nonprofit ecolabel for renewable energy. It’s an easy, pragmatic solution for renewable energy users who want to accelerate the worldwide energy transition and support the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action and poverty alleviation.
BraveTrace New Zealand renewable energy certificates (NZ-ECs) support the development of renewable energy projects and decarbonisation initiatives across Aotearoa. By adding the EKOenergy option to their NZ-EC purchase, energy users extend the impact of their renewable energy choices beyond New Zealand’s borders. For example, they help raise awareness of biodiversity conservation and support international actions and campaigns that promote renewable energy worldwide.
One of EKOenergy’s best-known features is its Climate Fund. For every NZ-EC purchased with the optional EKOenergy label, €0.10 is contributed to the Fund, which finances solar projects in disadvantaged communities in low- and middle-income countries. All projects are implemented by experienced NGOs and contribute to multiple Sustainable Development Goals.
EKOenergy-labelled NZ-ECs are a voluntary add-on. They are available through the BraveTrace Network via the NZECS Participants authorised as EKOenergy sellers, including 3Degrees, ACT Commodities, ACXargyle, Ecohz, Redex, South Pole, and STX.
