Spotlight on Superior Doors – Turning Sustainability Commitments into Credible Action

When Aaron Davidson stepped into the General Manager role at Superior Doors in 2019, he joined his siblings in the family business founded by his parents in the 1980s. Today, Superior Doors is New Zealand’s largest manufacturer of high-performance doors that help make homes more comfortable and energy efficient.

While a door may seem straightforward, “the core is where all the performance comes from,” Aaron explains. Superior Doors uses highly effective insulation materials within its doors to minimise heat transfer, helping create warmer homes in winter, cooler homes in summer. Designed with longevity in mind, the doors deliver lasting thermal performance, helping homeowners reduce energy use while improving comfort and durability.

Alongside product innovation, Aaron has championed a strong focus on waste reduction across the business, diverting approximately 85% of the waste that would previously have been sent to landfill. Materials once treated as waste are now being repurposed into new products or used in composting and landscaping applications.

The company has also focused on advancing its decarbonisation journey through energy efficiency improvements, including upgrading lighting, modernising equipment, and sourcing certified renewable electricity.

“Our customers – architects, designers, home developers and specifiers – are increasingly looking for credible proof of sustainability performance,” says Aaron. “Purchasing certified renewable electricity via our electricity retailer, independently verified by BraveTrace, has been a great fit for our business. It strengthens our energy claims and means we’re also supporting valuable community decarbonisation projects.”
