The New Zealand Energy Certificate System (NZECS) issues Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to Meridian for the amount of renewable energy generated by Meridian’s certified hydro stations and wind farms. These RECs are then allocated to customers like One NZ based on the amount of electricity used for the period that Certified Renewable Energy is purchased for

NZSki, which operates Mt Hutt, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, is on a mission to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. To address their Scope 2 electricity emissions (currently reported as over 1,000 tonnes per annum), NZSki purchases Meridian Energy South Island hydroelectricity certified by BraveTrace.

This year has seen significant growth in the volume of New Zealand Energy Certificates (NZ-ECs) traded, with redeemed volumes up over 40% on the previous year. A massive thank you to everyone in our ever-expanding BraveTrace network for making this possible!

Certified Energy celebrates a year marked by strong activity and growth! During 2023, over 120 additional energy users registered on the NZECS. These energy users represent a diverse spectrum of enterprises, from small businesses to large corporates coming from a widespread array of industries, domestic and international.
